At Sampola and the House of Estates
A post-event report from the Genealogy Day at Tampere Sampola on 28 January and the Finnish Genealogical Society's 100th anniversary celebration at the House of Estates in Helsinki on 30 January 2017.
The Genealogy Day at Tampere’s Sampola community centre on Saturday 28 January went well. After that I travelled to Helsinki for the Finnish Genealogical Society’s 100th anniversary celebration at the House of Estates (Säätytalo) on 30 January — exactly 100 years after the society’s founding meeting.
The ceremony was impressive. A minister, a bishop and a director general all gave speeches; the soprano Aliina Koivula provided the music. Matti has been a member of the Finnish Genealogical Society since the late 1960s and served on its board for two decades, so the centenary felt like a personal milestone as well.
It was a good week for genealogy in Finland.
