Toiset Aijat II is the continuation of the 1978 first volume. It focuses on the Herraskylä village and its traditions — a theme that runs through the book as its central thread, with architectural drawings as a sub-theme.

The Coach House at Heritage Village

One of the main subjects of this volume is the dismantling and documentation of a coach house at Perinnekylä (Heritage Village). I led the dismantling project, which required detailed research into the building’s history and the families associated with it.

The Rajalahti Farm Families

The Rajalahti farm was moved to Perinnekylä as part of the heritage village project. Researching the families who lived there across the generations connects the building history to the human history of the community.

B. A. Paldan and the Old Runes

B. A. Paldan was a local figure who collected old Finnish runes (runot) and songs. His family, their connections to Herraskylä, and the cultural significance of his collection form another thread in the book.

The Helimäki Croft

The book also tells the origin story of the Helimäki croft — how it came into being, who settled it and what became of the family line.

Together with Toiset Aijat I, this volume provides a rich portrait of Virrat’s village life across the centuries, grounded in archival research and oral history.
