IsoKakkonen I Wins Book of the Year 2014

The genealogical book IsoKakkonen I — about the descendants of Yrjö Kakkonen of Hammaslahti, Pyhäselkä — has been awarded the Finnish Genealogical Society's Book of the Year prize.

The Finnish Genealogical Society (Suomen Sukututkimusseura) has selected IsoKakkonen I as the Book of the Year 2014. The competition received 61 entries this year.

The book traces the descendants of Yrjö Kakkonen, a farmer of Hammaslahti village in Pyhäselkä parish, Karelia. It was co-authored by Jouni Kakkonen and Matti J. Kankaanpää.

The honour reflects the quality of both the genealogical research and the presentation — a thorough and readable account of the family’s history from its roots in early modern Karelia through to living generations.

Congratulations to Jouni Kakkonen for initiating the project and for carrying such a large undertaking through to completion. Working together on the book was a rewarding experience.
