Who Was V. J. Heino?

A mystery photograph: a man in military uniform on horseback, spring 1918, who signed the back "V.J. Heino". Who was he? A request for information from anyone who might know.

Among the photographs that passed to me as part of the family inheritance is a picture of a man on horseback in winter military uniform, taken in spring 1918. On the back, in his own hand, he has written his name: V.J. Heino.

I have searched the Jäger registers and the known rosters of the Civil War units without finding him. The unit in question appears to be connected to the Virtain pataljoona (Virrat Battalion).

Does anyone recognise the name V.J. Heino in connection with Virrat or the surrounding area in 1918? If you have any information, please get in touch.

The photograph itself shows a man who clearly knows how to sit a horse. The spring 1918 dating comes from the visible conditions and uniform details.

Any leads — however small — would be welcome.
